The Internet Society Foundation is pleased to announce that applications are now open for its Internet Governance Forum (IGF) funding program. This initiative is designed to support the organization of United Nations IGF Secretariat-recognized National and Regional Initiatives (NRIs) and Schools on Internet Governance (SIGs). This program empowers communities to shape a more equitable and sustainable digital future by fostering an inclusive, multi-stakeholder dialogue on Internet governance.
The IGF funding program has three primary objectives: to encourage open dialogue on key Internet governance issues, to cultivate future leaders equipped with the skills and knowledge to influence Internet policy, and to strengthen the Foundation’s mission by driving impactful outcomes from IGF events. Funding is available for activities such as hosting costs, outreach to ensure diverse participation, and event organization. The program prioritizes recognized NRIs, youth initiatives, and SIGs with tangible links to the broader Internet governance ecosystem.
“We believe that inclusive and diverse Internet governance is crucial to a thriving digital society,” said Jenn Beard, Senior Program Officer at the Internet Society Foundation. “This funding program helps ensure that local and regional voices are not only heard but have the tools to contribute meaningfully to Internet governance discussions and decisions.”
Eligible organizations can apply for sponsorships of up to $15,000, depending on the geographic scope of their events. To maintain a transparent and impactful process, applicants are required to submit detailed budgets and adhere to reporting standards set by the Foundation and the IGF Secretariat.
The program is open to organizations directly involved in planning recognized NRIs or SIGs, with priority given to Internet Society (ISOC) Chapters. Applicants must submit their proposals at least 8-10 weeks before their event dates to allow sufficient time for review. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early submissions are strongly encouraged. Funding has been completely exhausted annually in the third quarter of the year.
To apply, visit the Foundation’s grant management platform, Fluxx. First-time applicants will need to register on the platform and provide at least two points of contact for their organization. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered, so ensure all requirements are met before submission.
Take this opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of Internet governance. See the IGF Grant Program page for more details about eligibility, focus areas, and how to apply.
