OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The project aims to develop and sustain economic growth through Internet awareness and the promotion of digital innovation in the south region of Senegal. The goal is to economically empower students, entrepreneurs, women and young people through the use of the Internet and digital innovation.
WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?
The south region of Senegal, Ziguinchor, was a good place for tourism before the 40 year-old armed conflict, but nowadays, tourism is non-existent and the economically strong industries (fish and seafood processing companies) are all closed. Currently, there is little industry to sustain the economic development of the region.
The project supports the disadvantaged populations who are vulnerable to weak economies and located in areas with poor Internet access and coverage. It provides support to these communities, comprised of project leaders and entrepreneurs, start-ups, and young people and women, by giving them proper training and coaching, better Internet access, and improving the digital infrastructure. The project also supports them in better structuring their projects in order to achieve resilient digital solutions that can have a strong social and economic impact within their communities.
