OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
Digitruck Salone aims to bridge the digital divide in rural Sierra Leone (3 Districts of Sierra Leone–Bombali District in the Northern province, Kenema District in the Eastern province, and the Western Rural Area-) by providing mobile, state-of-the-art computer labs/classrooms to underserved communities. This project will equip 300 students and 30 female entrepreneurs with the digital literacy skills and tools they need to improve their lives. It provides new knowledge and opportunities to local communities through access to the social, political, employment, and financial services and platforms that access to the Internet brings.
WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?
The project tackles the critical issue of limited access to technology and the Internet in rural areas. By bringing the technology directly to the communities, Digitruck Salone removes geographical barriers and allows individuals to gain valuable digital skills. Secondly, the project focuses on empowering women and youth, two demographics with significant untapped potential. By equipping them with digital literacy, the project opens doors to new educational and economic opportunities. Finally, Digitruck Salone promotes sustainability by utilizing solar power and donating equipment to local schools and libraries after each training cycle. This ensures continued access to technology and a lasting impact beyond the project’s initial deployment.
