Establishment and Strengthening of Community Networks in the Most Disadvantaged Regions of Haiti

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT 

The objective of the project is to contribute to reducing the digital divide by deploying sustainable Community Networks in the rural areas that need it the most in Haiti. The specific goals are (1) to connect the unconnected to the Internet and (2) to increase the bandwidth of existing connectivity.  

WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT? 

Internet connectivity remains a challenge in Haiti, especially in rural areas with no coverage or with connectivity access with a very poor quality service. This project supports local communities during the implementation of Internet access and provides them with training and monitoring tools. Drawing on support from Haitians in the Diaspora, the project helps to develop a clear business model, as well as a clear management and operational framework, ensuring that the local community is engaged and able to manage and sustain the Community Network.
